Plac Zbawiciela on Marszałkowska Street is dominated by the Church of the Most Holy Saviour, consecrated in 1927. In September 1939 German shells destroyed the church's west tower, the spire over the crossing and the roof, and in 1944 German demolition charges caused further severe damage. The church was repaired after the war and reopened to worshippers in 1948; the 20-metre central spire was never rebuilt.
